Overview

The individual in this position will supervise delivery fleet maintenance, staff and purchasing recommendations for the Company’s regional locations. Focusing on a ‘safety first’ culture, this position will promote safe work practices, enhance the quality of preventive maintenance, maintenance planning and execution; including the assignment of maintenance orders for efficient and timely repairs. Supervisory leadership will maximize equipment availability, utilization and performance through training and the creation of standards. Additional supervisory responsibilities will include operator care and performance evaluations as well as supporting the Distribution Manager and Purchasing Manager in resource planning and direction. Will be pro-active in solving scheduling conflicts and priorities for the maintenance staff, and will manage cost associated with repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces safety practices and procedures and ensures employees receive appropriat safety training.
  • Networks with customers on the status of equipment.
  • Responsible for planning the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles and related equipment assigned to departments and divisions.
  • Implements and monitors a preventative maintenance program to assure cost effectivenes and schedules routine and emergency maintenance as required.
  • Maintains basic inventories for parts, supplies, etc.
  • Oversees the registration and inspection requirements for all over the road vehicles and equipment.
  • Obtains necessary permits and licenses for all over the road vehicles and equipment; state highway explosive permits, IFTA, divisible load permits, etc.
  • Monitors and performs analysis on vehicle and equipment utilization and evaluation of equipment.
  • Implements and maintains a tech training program to provide needed skills for drivers and mechanics in repair of bulk equipment.
  • Supervises all Fleet Services employees; trains, evaluates and disciplines employees.
  • Assists in the development of the Fleet Services budget to include a review of past year expenses; adjusts and administers all Fleet Service purchases, including parts, tools, office supplies.
  • Examines reports for accuracy on each vehicle and piece of equipment repaired; writes reports on vehicles and equipment repaired; completes necessary monthly reporting to management on maintenance schedules and State and Federal inspections.
  • Supervises and participates in the upkeep of maintenance and repair records; performs preventive maintenance on all selected departmental vehicles; orders repair parts.
  • Checks on repair work performed by outside shops for completeness.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School plus completed course work in auto and/or equipment mechanics at a Trade school or equivalent.
  • Five (5) plus years experience as a mechanic, two (2) plus of which must be in a Supervisory capacity.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to operate with a high level of urgency.
  • Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License, B. Tank and hazmat endorsements will be required within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Highly adaptable to change and the ability to function in a fast paced environment.

 

QUALIFICATION / SKILLS

  • Knowledge of techniques and procedures involved in maintenance repairs and replacement.
  • Knowledge of Fleet Management Information System.
  • Considerable knowledge of mechanical safety practices and techniques; diesel and gas engine mechanics, parts, supplies and pump operations.
  • Leadership ability to function and perform effectively as a supervisor.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the repair and maintenance of vehicles and fleet equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment with accuracy and speed.
  • Ability to coordinate programs, prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED

  • Personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
  • Industry tools for personal work performance and diagnostic evaluation.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit and walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately noisy.
